Professor Marjukka Mäkelä is a founder member of G-I-N and served in the Board from the beginning to 2006, as Vice-chair in 2004-05 and as Chair 2005-06.
She holds a PhD and specialist degree in general practice (Helsinki University) and an M.Sc in clinical epidemiology (McMaster University). She is the director of the Finnish Office for Health Technology Assessment since 2000 and a part-time professor at the Department of General Practice, Copenhagen University; Marjukka established the Current Care guidelines in Finland in 1993 and was the chief editor for CC until 2002.
Marjukka's research interests include guideline implementation, screening, upper respiratory tract infections, diagnosis in primary care, and quality management. Her methodological strengths are in health technology assessment, evidence-based approaches, systematic reviews, health economics, and health services research.
