G-I-N EC Community Workshop at the ICEM Conference in singapore June 2010

The G-I-N EC Community was invited to hold a workshop at the ICEM conference in Singapore focussing on guidelines for Emergency Medicine. The workshop was to provide an opportunity to discuss what type of guidelines emergency clinicians need, step through the AGREE process to assess the quality of guidelines and participate in a practical session on how to implement a guideline locally.

The format of the work session was a combination of presentations and moderated discussion. Highlights of the workshop included presentations fro Prof Peter Cameron (President IFEM) who opened the workshop introducing the benefits of collaboration with G-I-N and the extensive resources available through G-I-N.

• Prof Matthew Cooke posed the question ‘What sort of guidelines does the EM sector need?’  and led the discussion on this topic. You can view the presentation here.
• A/ Prof Atul Kapur provided an introduction to AGREE II, there was strong interest in that AGREE as a valuable tool should be more widely promoted across the sector. You can view the presentation here.
• Dr Annitha Annathurai provided a case study on prioritising recommendations for implementation of Chest Pain Guidelines. You can view the presentation here.
• Dr Peter Pang from Hong Kong provided a structural approach to review barriers to implementation and identified evidence based strategies targeting specific stakeholders. You can view the presentation here.

2010 Teleconference series

To support the sharing of expertise and knowledge we have planned a series of teleconferences. To keep costs minimal for participants we will use a teleconferencing service to host the calls, the actual cost of the call will depend on your carrier. Skype can be used which will help keep costs to a minimum.

The times of the calls will depend on the availability of the person leading the call, we will try to ensure that times are rotated in the interest of fairness given the international time differences.  Dates and times will be posted soon.

Adapting guideline recommendations
