9th G-I-N conference overview

Dear Colleagues,
Greetings from a sunny Scotland! I thought I would take this opportunity to update you on some of the activities of the G-I-N Board over the last few months.
We had a very productive meeting in Paris at the end of March where we looked at all aspects of G-I-N’s work and where we go from here. Following that meeting we have developed and refined our strategic plan for the next three years and that is currently out for consultation with the members of our working groups and sub-committees. Once we have refined the plan in the light of these comments we will share this with all our members and debate this at our Annual General meeting in Chicago at the end of August.
Another discussion in Paris was concerned with current issues in the guideline world. With Board members from five continents we were able to identify issues from almost the whole world and, perhaps not surprisingly, they were very similar. Key issues of relevance to G-I-N included:
- Is there a future for clinical guidelines?
- Implementation
- Collaboration
- Electronic decision support
- Conflicts of interest
- Adaptation
- Increasing interest from policy makers
- Accreditation of others’ guidelines
- Special problems of low/middle income countries.
Such similar problems once again reinforce the need to work collaboratively and we need to ensure that G-I-N’s activities help us to find joint solutions. One obvious way that we can do this is via the networking opportunities at our annual conference - don’t forget that the Early Bird Registration finishes on 24 June.
