Chair's column March 2010

Sara Twaddle

Dear Colleagues,

I hope 2010 has got off to a good start for you all. At G-I-N we have been moving forward in a number of areas that members have told us are important. These include:

  • Improving our website – the new website was launched in January and I hope you agree that the new look and content is much more user friendly.  However, the website must evolve to meet the needs of all our members, so please let us know how it can be improved to make it even more useful.
  • Increasing our activities in other areas of the world -   I am delighted to announce that G-I-N’s presence in Asia is becoming stronger. Firstly, Keng Ho Pwee from Singapore has joined the board as a co-opted member and secondly, our 2011 conference will take place in Seoul, South Korea.
  • Addressing the needs of particular groups - a working group to strengthen the involvement of allied health professionals and nurses in the guideline development and implementation process is being set up. This work is being led by Philip Van der Wees, one of our new Board members
  • Developing new areas of work – a small group is currently looking at how G-I-N should address the whole issue of implementation, building on the hugely successful meeting at the Lisbon conference.

The other big news is the great response to the call for abstracts for the Chicago conference. Thank you to all of those who have submitted abstracts – the Scientific Committee are now working hard to put together an outstanding programme.  In addition, two workshops are being held before the conference – G-I-N PUBLIC are running a one day course on practical ways to develop high quality patient-oriented guidelines, and ACCP are running a one day course on guideline methodology. Places are limited, so book early to guarantee your place and don’t forget to book your place for the conference!

As ever, please feel free to get in touch with me about any aspect of G-I-N’s work.

Kind regards,

Sara Twaddle, Chair of G-I-N
