two Pre-conference courses will be held on 25 August 2010 on patient involvement and guideline methodology

Interested but challenged by patient and public involvement? Practical ways to develop high quality patient-oriented guidelines.

This workshop will support mentoring and exchange between guideline organizations that have different levels of experience with patient and public involvement. It will offer opportunities for guideline organizations to discuss challenges and explore practical solutions to foster the development of high quality patient-oriented guidelines. Topics addressed will include methods for incorporating robust evidence on patients’ perspectives in guidelines, recruitment and support to allow patients to contribute competently and confidently, and approaches for communicating guidelines and evidence to facilitate informed and shared decision-making.

This full day pre-conference workshop is organized by the Guideline International Network Patient and Public Involvement Working Group (G-I-N PUBLIC) and will be held at the 7th G-I-N conference in Chicago. Registration fees are 200$US (G-I-N members), 300$ (non G-I-N members), and 100$ (consumers and students). The maximum registration is set at 50 participants.

ACCP Methodology course

The American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Methodology Course aims to provide an in-depth study of the standardized methodology employed by the ACCP to develop evidence-based clinical practice guidelines. Course topics will include, but are not limited to, the issue of harmonization, performance measure development, conflict of interest, continuing medical education programs, electronic decision support tools, and improved patient outcomes as related to the ACCP’s guideline development process. Participants will be provided with templates, algorithms, and written processes that will increase the value of the education opportunity and provide them with useful tools to use in their own guideline development.
