Chair's column

Sara Twaddle October 2008

As I write, I can hardly believe that more than 12 months have passed since we were all together in Helsinki. I believe that G-I-N has gone from strength to strength in this time and we have achieved a lot:

  • Increased membership in spite of the global recession
  • Redesign of our website to better meet the needs of the members (to be launched in Lisbon)
  • Appointment of a full time Executive Officer
  • Enhanced governance arrangements and increased involvement of members on the committees
  • Development of partnership agreements with similar international organisations.

This is not to say we are complacent, there is much still to do. Hopefully at Lisbon and over the next few months you will see our ideas becoming a reality. Please contact me, or any members of the Board, if you  have ideas for further developing G-I-N.

Finally I’d like to say a few words of thanks. Firstly to the Executive and the wider Board for their enthusiasm and commitment, to Magali, Martina and Inga for all their hard work to the editorial team for producing EnGINe, to the Scientific Committee for Lisbon for pulling together a fantastic programme and lastly, but certainly not least, to you all for supporting G-I-N.

I look forward to seeing you all in Lisbon for an interesting and thought provoking meeting and maybe a few drinks….

Sara Twaddle, Chair of G-I-N
