An update from our Multimorbidity Working Group

The Multimorbidity Working Group has currently 26 members from 11 countries.

The group has been active in gathering a consortium to apply funding from the EU Horizon2020 call, and involve non-EU countries as well. The research would address how to identify recommendations relevant for people with multimorbidity. It would also test the effectiveness of a care-management program based on evidence and best practice experience in a cluster-randomised multi-centre/multinational trial. Unfortunately, the research proposal received insufficient points for being accepted (3.5 on a scale from 1 to 5, whether a minimum of 4 was needed). As an alternative, the research ideas can be used for preparing proposals within national research programs.

Last year, we suggested to write a policy paper for G-I-N on guidelines for multimorbidity, which was postponed until methodology has been developed and experience from different approaches has been gathered.

The next working group meeting at the Global Evidence Summit in Cape Town on September 15th from 12.30 – 2 pm offers opportunities to explore experiences and current, updated ideas among the group members. Please find the agenda for the meeting here (minutes from the last meeting on Sept. 29th, 2016 in Philadelphia can be found here).

The working group meeting includes reflection on the outcomes of the workshop ‘Addressing Multimorbidity In or Beyond Guidelines’ on Wednesday 13th from 11 am – 12.30 pm.

You are all welcome at both meetings. We hope to see you next month in Cape Town!

Best regards,

Ilkka Kunnamo
